Small trunk about 24" high and 9" high. Maybe quite early.
Would love to hear any expert opinions about it's origin and date.
Has a Taylor 640 Key.
Thanks!

A Nice small "iron bound traveling trunk" probably 1850s to 60s based on that style of lock and brass buttons , It was originally covered in embossed leather, Neat that you can still see the embossed design imprinted in the wood on the top. Without a
manufacturers label it is tough to say who made it as there were many early manufacturers of this style of trunk. Many early American trunk makers began as Saddlery ,Harness and even Carriage makers. The handles may have been replaced at one time from leather to iron, but they could be original to the peice.they are still an early iron handle design. Closer inspection of the interior where they attach might let you know ,(hard to tell from the photos). There would have been two leather straps over the top with a buckle assembly originally. The buttons on the front would hold two leather stays to hold the straps in place.thanks for the post.
Wow! Beautiful!
