Does anyone have any clue about this unmarked piece? It looks like the clasp has been replaced, because it doesn't match the time period and the base of the clasp on either side is not semetric. I have stared at this "cat" (it is what it looks like to me) brooch endlessly and don't want to sell it yet, I want to know more about it. I am pretty sure that the stones are a mix of moonstone, colored glass, rhinestone and possibly a rock opal? I can't remember if the darker opal name is correct. It has beautiful cartouche design around all of the beautiful colors that seem to look like a cat as a whole. I didn't see that at first, but after staring at it endlessly I noticed the ears (the two blue stones/glass at the top).
very beautiful!!!! welcome to cw!!! some one with jewelry knowledge will be able to help you .
So unusual and beautiful. I'm not a jewelry guru, but I do know when I see great things :)
The silver scroll work around the stones is fantastic!
That kind of work is from the tribals, isn't it? I thought I saw a couple of similar pieces posted on here before.
I am so happy that other people see the beauty with the flaws!! Lol, I don't think this is tribal, I think it is Victorian style costume jewelry, but more knowledge is always appreciated!!!
It resembles Hobe filigree jewelry from 1950 but the construction is different.
So, what is the difference between filigree and cartouche? I thought this had cartouche was the 3D scrolling or design around the gemstones and or colored glass.
It very well could be Egyption Revival from the 50's, that would make more sense if that is the original clasp. Under one side of the clasp it is in the shape of a square and the other end a circle, where every inch of the piece is symmetric.
