I found two awesome ship paintings at Goodwill this morning. One was out in the open and the other was hidden by another picture. They both had art lights mounted to their frames. So it wasn't very hard to miss it in the stacks. The lights alone were worth the price I paid for these beauties ! Since they're on artist board and wood panel no damage to either one. Nice frames too. This one is of "The Little Nellie"c. 1895. There's a bit of a shadow in the sky at the top from the art light. Not a dark cloud. Fully documented on the back and by one of Vermont's well known maritime artists Ernie Haas. -Mike-

Ernie Haas: Maritime Artist Extraordinaire (1929-Present)

Ernest Haas, a retired history teacher, is a painter of historical canvases who lives in South Burlington Vermont. Haas, 86, who was a volunteer on the Lois McClure boat project states "Aside from these amateur forays into historical boat-building, my hope to get back to painting was encouraged when the Maritime Museum asked me to do a number of illustrations for some of the exhibits there. Some galleries showed an interest and I have kept busy ever since. At the same time, I took advantage of the colorful history of the lake and did quite a few paintings on my own of the early side-wheelers and other craft that sailed there". Mr. Haas has been painting ships and maritime scenes for more than 60 years.

    Vanished Vessels Made Visible

A special exhibit of works in 2013 by marine artist Ernest Haas, brings lake history vividly to life. For more than 20 years, Haas has worked with the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum archaeologists to create dramatic paintings that capture the lake's legacy of vanished vessels.

Thank you for the compliment sklo42 :)...It took a bit of research for these which is why they probably sold for so little. He's a regional artist so info it's just out there in plain sight. I wasn't able to find any references to value or prices for his work though. GW most likely didn't either or they would have been priced much higher for sure.
