    A relatively early Iwata vase, probably early 1950s, and most likely a Toshi Iwata design.

    Quite a simple make; green and burgundy glass, cased in clear, blown and twisted.
    What I think sets it apart is the unusual choice of colour. Great result though!

    Iwata at this stage was very influential on the Japanese art glass world and this style of vase led on to the huge array of rainbow glass produced by Japan in the 1950s and early 1960s.

      It's a beauty :)...I don't know why but I find these pieces so fluid and tactile. They just beg to be picked up and studied.

      I love this style of vase Karen. I've had several Murano ones and love how the twists add so much interest to the vase. Another great piece!

      Thanks again Rick. Toshi Iwata spent some time on Murano in the 30s and no doubt was influenced by them. Japanese spin (sorry, bad pun) given to this in the colour I think.
