My Loetz marmoriertes glass 'gi-gantor' vase.
Are you aloud to call something 'monumental' when it isn't over 13 inches or taller?..because in my world of vases this vase most! definitely is...
A 'milky marble'...with smokey light brown to dark chocolate swirls.
It is the shape and just about the size of a rugby ball weighing in at.. just!! under... 4.4 lbs or two kilos...
And is...
7 inches tall
10.1/2 in diameter
7.1/2 inches wide
The detail on the gilt metal collar around the rim is simple but! elegant, the mount it sits in is lovely and makes up for it with more detail. The acanthus leaves feet splay out and look as if they are really! struggling with the weight of it all!...
Everything about it is perfect and it is a fabulous thing..I love it!! and am thrilled to have, I can't wait to be able to place it and give it pride of place in my new home!
I have had this vase now for quite a while but! and I would like thank a good friend who with out their help meant! I saved paying an absorbent amount of shipping ...thank you!!...;-)
Sorry! about the reflection seen on the surface...and thank you for looking!
Wow! Hoping no one will play rugby with it ;-)
Hi! kyratango...Thank you and don't know about that, after all this is 'All Black' country!!!...;)
What the HELL !!!
MARMOR!!!
WOW !!!
Lol!!! .... vetraio50... You had me racing to see if I has spelt it wrong....:-)))).... thank you..:-)
Many thanks agh!....:-)

Wonderfully cloudy Hellmarmor !!!!
Well I could say it's just OK but I would just prove myself an idiot.
Another exceptional vase in the sticky hands of Inky!!!
An absolute beauty, well done inky.

Hi racer4four..you can say it's ok!.. I know!!! you are not an idiot and so do all the others...far from it!!.. Many thanks!...:-)
Very beautiful indeed!!!
Many thanks for stopping and commenting Alan always a pleasure to see you!...:-)
Really a very elegant vase Inky
This is a really large piece of stunning glass...... It is a beauty..... Nice find!!
Wow! I meant WOW!!
OMG inky.. I've never seen anything like it!! Wonderful, wonderful piece of art glass!!!
INKY ... can I ask a question? Truitt I loosely refers to Loetz creating three different colours of Marmorierte Glas: Carneol, Onyx and Malachite.
Is this a example of Onyx?
Or is Hellmarmor a different decor?
Hi! vetraio50...when I first received I had the same question!..I looked back and forth.. back and forth on Loetz.com...and they are so alike..I ended up asking a few people their thoughts and it's what we decided on in the end..maybe we could have a show of hands...of course as you can imagine I would be quite happy with either but! would like to have it correct!!...here are the two from Loetz.com..with a bit of luck they will weigh and confirm it for us!...:-))

http://loetz.com/decors-a-z/onyx
I agree. I was hoping that someone could explain the difference between the two. Is Onyx a red or a brown? Is the difference that Hellmarmor includes pink?
The thing that has struck me about the Marmoriete pieces ..... now that I have one .... is how they resemble highly polished marble. It's the high gloss polished look that really intrigues me !
If we are not talking about backgrounds the 'Onyx" leans towards having pink/red with the brown more than the Hellmarmor...which is why I felt it more likely mine to be 'Hellmarmor'...it has no pink and 'seems' to be darker than the 'Onyx'..
Yes!..very highly polished hard to take a photo with reflections!!
Sorry! that was meant to read.."without reflections"...:0/
OMG!!! Gorgeous, Anytime you want to trade :)
See I was looking at the Loetz.com description for Hellmarmor and they say:
"White opal ground marbled with cloudy white, pink and light brown. One of the marbled glass series of décors. The names translates as 'pale marble'."
and for the Onyx:
"White or light green opal ground marbled with brown and green-brown threads, imitating onyx stone. Together with Carneol, the most widespread of Loetz marbled glass. Usually painted with gold and/or enamel, sometimes in Islamic designs."
and Carneol:
"White opal ground marbled with a dense layer of salmon-pink or red threads, imitating carnelian stone. Usually painted with gold and/or enamel, sometimes in Islamic designs."
I agree yours has no pink. To my eye yours is more Onyx than Hellmarmor.
They have some really dark examples of Onyx.
Yes!..I have to agree but! was also looking on mine for a tad of green somewhere and I have none...will change it to Onyx for now and hopefully someone!!! who knows might like to share their thoughts and knowledge might jump in and help out!!!...:-)
Well let's see what the others say !!!
gorgeous!
Inky your glassware always is top notch and you do have a eye for gorgeous ! very stunning . Hope all is well with you miss chatting xo
I'd call it Monumental! It's gorgeous Inky.
Hi Inky
Think you have it right at this point ... With the dark brown lines should go to Onyx ... Did not want to ruin Vet50's opening comments ...
The lighter Color on the back is actually quite close to what Hellmarmor looks like ... More a pastel faun over white ... Has been posted here before I think ...
p.s. As the person owning the story you are able to delete serious typo's
:-)
Without diving into the hellmarmor vs onyx question - to make matters more cloudy, on one of the paper pattern for Series I- (PN I-700), it is clearly written on the drawing "hellonyx"
Truitt mentions Carneol, Onyx, and Malachite, but Loetz Bohemian Glass 1880-1940 (Cantz) mentions Onyx, Crneol, Malachit, Lapis lazuli, Hellmarmor "and others" - which are mentioned in other sources. A review of the Paris Exposition Universelle mentions Chamaeleon, a "golden-red and appled -green", and the paper patterns also have names like Achat, Serpentin, and Jaspis. There is also Green Onyx, of which I have an example, and there have been examples posted here on CW.
Personally, I have no problem calling Penny's piece onyx, hellonyx, or even hellmarmor. The color gradations from piece to piece vary widely, and at the end of the day, it's a very nice piece of Loetz marmoriertes glass.
I notice I had a few nasty typos myself... sucks getting older
stunning!!
how about ....Wow what an eye full
inky, I just saw this post for the first time - wow!! This piece is Amazing! I have never heard of a piece of marmoriertes glass this large - and this beautiful. It is just stunning. The colors are so very elegant, and I can't think of a nicer place for it to be than in your collection.
Hell's Teeth!!!! Inky, how did I miss this one!!! I am almost a fortnight late with my comment!! It's a humdinger!!!!!! But a beautiful one!!
