Purchased at an estate sale near Cincinnati. Painted metal panels on front appear to be trees. Brads or tacks make a design of a church I believe. Slightly curved or domed lid. Trunk locks. Original green paint. Would love to know more about the piece if anyone has any thoughts on its background, style, etc....

Goggle: Norwegian trunk images see what pops up! Many images of immigrant trunks similar to this items style .The paintings are a common theme. This would be a bridal trunk join two family trees. It very well could be the symbol of a church.
Hope this helps.thanks for the post.

Thank you for the information! I love the trunk too-- It spoke to me :)
It also has snipe hinges which I just noticed. It does not appear to be dovetailed though-- I believe butt-joints. The "framing" around top of trunk prevents me from seeing if there is some other kind of "joinery" going on.
