I found this little lady in the case at Salvation yesterday. Not a second thought as to whether I should buy it or not. The only thing that would have made it better is if there had been a pair. Most of these show up as resin or composite faux ivory. Not sure if it is initially molded and then hand carved details added or if it is all hand carved. Most likely a mid-century piece. -Mike-
She is a beauty Mike.
Thanks Karen :)
The material is not ivory but a compound of marble, alabaster and resin that was poured into a mold and then hand-finished. Amilcare Santini was a sculptor born in Florence, Italy in 1910. His firm reproduces sculptures based on his original designs, and those of several other artists. Though he died in 1975, the firm remains in business and is still run by his family. The majority of models are classical in style and are either religious or mythological in theme.
Estimate: $75-$150.
Thanks so much GroovyGirl for all the info and the estimate. Not bad for just a couple of dollars ! :)
