The newest addition to the collection, found in the scrap metal pile over the past weekend. I have many more pictures of the details, it is just beautiful! The top says "BESSIE MAXWELL" and from Hartford CONN. When you search information about her she led quite the sad life and was in a school for "friendless" girls. I am not sure if it is her or not. But I will take care of her precious trunk for the rest of my days! There is a metal marking on the top as well. My one question is what that little metal piece is above...the one that kinda looks like half a pair of scissors. There are two of them (on each side of the inner tray on the bottom) They swing in and out?
Thanks for looking!
Some kind of latch, maybe. It's beautiful work. :)
It is an interior tray catch that holds the tray into the top lid, When it's open to allow access to the bottom without removing the tray. It is a wonderful find for a scrap heap and has some of the nicest heavy hardware.Refinished they can be stunning. If you search to back to my very 1st post, you will this style of trunk refinished in a unique way(The Four chiefs).thanks for showing it.Neat to have a name on it.
Awesome trunk!
