    katherines…
    (247 items)

So I picked these up along with a few other pieces, and thought I would share. The brooch is a swallow, I think, with wings full spread, enamel on base metal, then there's a plastic coat on top. He's a big one, 3" from tip to tip, and the design and colors appealed to me. The necklace struck me for the strange complexity of design and the use of milk glass beads which I adore. It's an older vintage, judging by the clasp, choker length. The clasp is stamped curiously. There's an M then either an I, 1, or vertical line, I'm thinking the latter as it appears to be a tad longer than the other characters. Then the words Western Germany. I found one other necklace online that had the same clasp, same stamp, but no information on the maker in the listing. If anyone has anything to add I am happy to hear. I hope you enjoy seeing these pieces, and thanks for looking.

The necklace is particularly awesome, although I do love a swallow brooch!

The swallow brooch looks like Pierre Bex pieces, he did art deco revival in the 70'

Love both of your pieces :-)

I bet this is the necklace you looked at online: http://www.antiquesnavigator.com/d-706773/vintage-western-germany-white-beaded-milk-glass-necklace-estate-item.html

Items marked "WESTERN GERMANY" rarely have any other maker marks, so it's really hard to say who made the necklace. I have beautiful triple feather swirl brooch also marked Western Germany. 1950s.

kyratango, thank you for the link, I'll take a look at it right now, greatly appreciated, and glad you love them, of course I always think of you when I post an enameled piece. :)

Efesgirl, I would love to see your brooch, do post it in a thread. And thank you for posting the link, I'll take a look at it right now. :)

efesgirl, your eye is amazing as well!!! Except for the drop beads' shape, that has to be the same maker of my necklace. It's really too bad there is no further information, but as you say, these pieces rarely have another mark. It's just such an unusual piece makes you curious as to who designed it. Thanks again! :)

Well! I sent an inquiry to Sheryl's Art Deco, the link listed above, and asked if perhaps my brooch had been made from the same mold sometime after Bex stopped making theirs. The response I got was:

"Yours is a 1960s copy of a bex, Bex were first made in the 1960s/70s. The quality of yours is not as good as a bex."

I've looked closely at the two, and the main difference I can see is that Bex used rhinestones in his brooch. Hard to believe it isn't the same mold.

That's interesting about the Bex copies. I have a swallow brooch in pink that was sold to me as an antique. I wonder if it's an original Bex or a copy. It has rhinestones in it.

I always thought of the Bex pieces as copies.

Thanks for the love, Trey, freiheit, SEAN68, and Manikin. :)

Jewels1900, that is absolutely correct. According to her very own website, Bex produced reproductions of Art Deco pieces in the 70s - 80s era. Copies. The piece she has posted on her website of the swallow brooch is exactly identical to mine down to the measurements with the exception that hers has rhinestones where mine has faux stones. Hence my question to her, is it possible another company made copies after Bex was through with the molds. It was also possible that Bex had one line that used finer materials and one that didn't. I didn't expect her to say my brooch came from the 60s and was a lower quality copy, lol. Guess it's all in the perspective.

If you scroll up to my comment at #6, you will see the brooch on her site which has rhinestones. When I looked online, I saw the swallow brooches with and without rhinestones. I would imagine that the clasps on the reproductions are the modern safety clasps, whereas the ones from the Art Deco era had C-clasps.
