This pair of Hayashi Chuzo Japanese Cloisonne vases are about 25cm (10in) high. They're a nice matching pair with midnight blue grounds.

I identified them from the recently published "The Art of Japanese Cloisonne Enamel" by Fredric Schneider, the signature is 042 in his index of marks and signatures.

This book helped me identify a few other pieces as well, and I can highly recommend it as the new standard work on Japanese cloisonne.

The Art of Japanese Cloisonne Enamel

in holland we call this an Miep Kraak book

i think this book is a disaster, he skipped whole era,s of cloisonne
he got an scientifical meaning about the Rinpa school , which is absolute which is obsolete and a scientifical fallacy

you have to flip/flop every page because the text on a different page than the image

there are so many kanji misstakes in the book , that i think the writer hasn't even seen a Japanese menu in his life
