    Hi all,

So here is a beautiful piece by Steuben.
I refer to it as a pitcher or an ewer, but is it a creamer ? A few years ago, I had commented on one of Sean's post on his Steuben that I had passed on a bowl because it was chipped ... Oh, boy ... He was not pleased and let me hear it ... Lol, it was all cool. He told me that he would have not passed on it because Steuben had stopped production. I am open to criticism, and particularly from Sean ... Seems like our collecting tastes are very similar, and I respect his opinion. So since then, if it is signed Steuben, it goes in my museum ... even the imperfect ones ... If you look closely, the handle is broke, not missing, where it is attached at the bottom. One thought is to create a " make do" ... Bring is to a silversmith and have the handle wrapped and reinforced with a sterling serpent ... This beauty stood out amongst the glassware surrounding it on the thrift shelf ... Have you ever seen such clarity in glass ? I picked it up, put it down, picked it up, put it down ... Etc... Then i noticed what appeared to be a scratch to the base of the foot ... Anhhh, signed Steuben ... Made a feverish text to my friend who schools me about collecting... What to do, what to do ??? Lol, also kept thinking I knew what Sean would do ... I also question the issue of marks ... Take the signature out of the equation ... would I even consider it if not for being Steuben ??? My friend teaches me that in glass collecting .... Damage usually renders a piece worthless ... Except for an important one ... She advised if I could live with the damage, to go for it ... Interesting how overthinking about something can take your thoughts miles from the initial reason you were attracted to it firstly ... It's beauty ... which is and would be a complete insult to the hand that made it .... "What, you can't love my work as it is? It is art. As in a gallery, it is what you feel it is ... "

Sean, thanks for reminding me to love the perfect, the imperfect and the unknown.

Peace, love and a rock is simply a rock ...

LOL, well one thing for sure, I know I like the appearance and appeal of this :-)

Thanks, in all all it's glorious regality ... It stands 8 inches to spout, 9 inches to top of handle ... That is why it might be a gravy boat ...

      All in all.....very regal presence

Beautiful, I had to look closely to find the "damage." I'd say a creamer, in that era, I would imagine gravy was served in a silver or porcelain gravy boat.

Katherinescollections ... Thanks :) I can go with creamer. I had it for awhile before I noticed the break in the handle ... Interesting emotions ... I was on "cloud nine" at first, then minutes later had a dilemma on my hands ... Oh, the six inches between our ears can make the best or worst of a situation ... Lol ... All over something that was priced at $2.00 ... €1.78

I would have bought it without hesitation at $2. Of course we always want perfection, but sometimes flawed beauty is acceptable. There's a glass nappy I have posted on here, ABCG, absolutely stunning to look at, the entire bottom of it is covered with chips, but even so beautiful to look at. Cost $3. :)

Ahhhhh ... Love ... I heard a saying long time ago ... True love is that split second when two people exchange a glance ,briefly, in passing ... and they both have the same moment of elation ... But they never meet, they never learn each others flaws ... never to introduce judgement .... Forever sealing the moment as a beautiful memory of perfection ...

UPDATE : THIS BROKE THE OTHER DAY :(
    47. katherinescollections katherinescollections, 9 years ago
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this news, eye. :(
    48. eye4beauty eye4beauty, 9 years ago
Katherine ... Yep ... Flung a towel across the room, aiming for the towel rack and it caught this beauty ... Knocking it to the floor ... Then I get mad at myself, because I am lacking proper display space ... Lately I have just been passing on stuff and am trying to focus on a sensible collection of art glass ... Just a few nicer pieces that I can display properly and enjoy ...

Wise practice, eye4beauty, wish I could be as wise. :)

Very sorry to hear of your accident, what a shame. :(
