I got this rocking chair to repaint. It has some wear and tear to it. I fixed a lot of it with wood filler and it turned out quite nice. After doing some research, it seems this chair may be of some value. It's very heavy! It also has gold colored stenciling on the seat and a floral design on the headrest area as well as some of the ribbed sections on the spindles. The arms seem to be loose, as you can see in the picture. Does anybody know what I can do to tighten them up? Any information is greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!

Well there were some deep gouges on it that I repaired with wood filler. The previous owner had a dog that gnawed the right front rocker too. Any suggestions on restoring it instead of painting it?? Or maybe even some type of molding/bondo material that I could use to reform the front part of the rocker leg?

Hello, your rocking chair is beautiful. In my opinion you have to restore it but not touching or changing it. I mean the only damage can be fixed carefully and let the expert to that. Its antique and the design above its a veneer combination. Try to varnished only to maintain the wood and protection but leave as it is. The value of antique is greater. If you want to sell it make sure you get the correct evaluation from expert or better not to sell it, its a piece of heart :-)

Looking at your chair it is a nice solid wood rocker-- NOT antique, but a good functional piece of furniture.

The stamping on the bottom is indicative of a late 20th century product.

Online searches show VA House was in business from the 1940s to the late 1990s.

I'd focus your repairs on making the chair functional and do it yourself. You don't have an expensive chair and expert help will cost more than the chair is worth.
