This gorgeous piece of Nailsea glass is hopefully soon to be mine!! My mother in law purchased it at an old thrift shop in Tennessee while traveling recently. I have already told her that I want it! Nailsea glass was made in the Bristol district in England from 1788 to 1873. It was made by many different factories, not just the Nailsea Glass House. Many pieces were made with loopings of either white or colored glass as decoration. Nailsea has become a generic name for small decorative items that were made by from leftover glass. This is a rarely found piece of vintage or antique glass. It is a very large amber with white "loopings" glass compote. Usually these are found with the Jenny Lind cameo on the stem, but this one has the harder to find butterfly medallion. This stands about 10" high and 7" wide. After the Nailsea Glass House closed, these types of glass art were still being made by other English glass makers and it was continued to be made long after that in both the United States and Italy. So dating this piece is hard. Nonetheless, it still holds value whether it was made in the Nailsea Glass House or a replica made in the United States.
