bluestones…
(8 items)
Thank you for helping me with this mystery!
These are photos of two scrimshaw Sperm whale teeth that were purchased at a flea market in the 1980's. I have no way of identifying it's authenticity.
I have searched far and wide for information on this. If these are' authentic, I would be very afraid to mail them out not knowing that, and taking the chance that they will be lost and never insurable for their actual value. That's why I thought of a laboratory
If you recognize this scrimshaw please help me by sharing your information. If you know of a reputable appraiser, auction house or laboratory please share too. I am in North Florida.
Thanks to all who share their information!
Blue Stones and Daffodils
beautiful!!!
These are fake-- probably some sort of resin or plastic. The 1980s were a heyday for this type of item.
The bottom and odd patina are a give away.

Thank you both for your input. It's a delimma for me. I don't know enough, and I'm afraid to assume anything. It would cost a fortune to insure it on the chance that it might be, to get it to an expert for a professional opinion.
They appear to be made in with a mold . Agree with Scott bottom appears all wrong Here is good example of your bottom if you scroll down page

Do some research online and you will quickly see the differences in your pieces and the real ones.
Your local library should have some books as well.
These are pretty obvious-- once you see some real ones, there will be little question.
If you still have questions, send some jpgs to an auction house or two.
