Found these gulf signs over the years and still looking for more. Always liked the colors and also have a pump from the 60's . Some of us remember when gas was 23.9 and they would pump your gas and clean your widows for free!! That dieselect sign is very rare and have never come across one before. Fill'er up sir @ 23.9 cents. So that's $3 I owe you ?
Thanks ronM
Hey, we are only about $1.46! (per litre)
Blunderbuss2, when we were in Italy in 2013 gas was $8 a gallon. Not sure what it is now.
And don't forget the "Blue Chip Stamps" we would give the customers ! I worked at a Hancock Gas Station in San Diego, CA when Gas was this cheap. Great Post Coke 1234 !
I seem to remember 18.?¢ Remember "gas wars"?
Yes I do remember the Gas Wars BB2. This was when the station owners dipped even deeper to hand out cheap made in japan dinner plates, and cups. Remember, these were the "BC" days, which means "Before China". We also had Raffles for Turkeys, Hams etc., that the boss always seemed to win.
Yeah us guys would all chip in 50 cents each for gas and cruise the drive in restaurants . That was in the Detroit area back in the 60's . GTO's , SS 396 ,442's , Hemi's , hiPo 289-K code mustangs and maybe even a 427 Corvette. You know today's muscle cars are even better then ever. They don't build them like they used to ...they build them better !
Yeah, I had a GTO! A relief to know that I'm not the only old dog here. I still have & use a solar powered calculator given with a fill-up! Yes, BC. Great that petrol was cheap, because on those gas hogs, stepping on the accelerator was like flushing a toilet. (Carb. by Kohler or Amer. Standard) LOL!! At least that boon to the auto parts industry didn't exist. Known as CV joints! How much of the cost of petrol is taxes on Uncle Sambo's Plantation?
Yep! I worked a couple of Service Stations as a kid and remember the customers stopping to have us check their oil, air their tires and wash their windshield and asking for a free map and then not even buying a Bucks worth if gas! That which is freely granted is taken for granted!
