    Collectoma…
    (68 items)

I'm trying to decide if this colourful piece of glass is a bud vase, or a perfume decanter with a missing top. It stands 4 & 5/8th's tall, and weighs 16.7 oz. It was another thrift shop find of mine, so I have no provenance on it at all. It cleaned up nice with no chips or bites on it. I would like to also conclude the mark on the bottom. If it wasn't for the little dot, I wouldn't have known which way to view it.
Any info or guesses from my CW friends would be appreciated as always.
This is the ultimate learning site for me. I find it a tough go for the most part to research glass on my own with the knowledge I have.
    Thanks :)

If it had been a perfume bottle there would usually be some evidence inside the neck. It may be just very faint rub marks from the stopper.
I can't help with the ID but it is beautifully made and the base shows some age. I hope someone can help!

I'm going with the candle holder
    3. Collectomaniac Collectomaniac, 9 years ago
Thanks Racer4four and Zowie. I got out the 10x, and had a close look under some good lighting, and saw no signs of scratching at all around the inside of the neck. (Smooth as glass). I'll be sure to observe this area in the future to make some determinations when in doubt.
Hey Zowie :) It does resemble a candle holder since you mentioned it, but the hole is only about 3/8th ". Will put it down as a maybe still tho. Thank-you.

Not a problem my pleasure to help so little but I have had some very skinny candle sticks in the past so maybe it still maybe

The shape and color kind of make me think of Kosta, especially the stuff by Mona Morales-Schildt. But I've definitely never seen one without the full signature and most from her Ventana series had faceted cuts. That capital B on the bottom is just confounding!

Sorry I wasn't more help with the ID but you might want to look up some of the Scandinavian companies (Kosta, Orrefors, etc) to see if anything looks familiar.

Thanks swfinluv1. I started searching your leads and was able to view some similar examples without any problem.
Do you see a big fancy 'B' in the engraving? I didn't see that until you mentioned it. I've always figured it was a TB,JB or even a 23. But I'm leaning towards the B now.
      Great comment :), Thanks again.

I thought it looks like JB in my opinion...

Found something like it, but they say EL but it looks like they are upside down to me, MOO [ = My Opinion Only ]. See link below (item located in Canada) :

Thanks for keeping an eye out for me antiquerose. What a great surprise that you would find these others. I tend to agree, they're likely upside down due to that ambiguous little dot. But!! These 2 online are in Vancouver, close to me. And that in itself tends to lend to the fact they are all made by a local artist, or maybe they where retailed out at local store at one time. Hmmmm.
      Thanks again :))

I'll go with a vase as I said I have had some very small candles in the past it's different

Aha! The signature is Jan Benda (Krystyna Glass). This is listed on the website under "circle oil lamps".

Aha is right. My hat is off too you swfinluv1 for taking the time and successfully finding an answer to whose initials these are. Mr. Jan Benda and his wife Krystyna from the sunshine coast here in British Columbia. I know I wasn't the only one who was having difficulties id'ing this item and it's creator, and I hope word gets around to the other confused individuals that I've seen online elsewhere. Thanks again swfinluv1 :)

What a great life Jan and his wife must have. Their studio is within walking distance of the sea side. I don't get jealous easily, but.....

You're welcome! I messaged all the sellers that had pieces for sale with the same signature...at least all the ones I had bookmarked.

I just saw this question. What you posted is a oil lamp by Jan Benda Glass from BC Canada. It is mossing the wick and ferrul. I have several and would post a photo if I could.
