A long time ago flea market find!
The ornate part is 11" long, no clasp, only two rings for attaching a ribbon.
I thought it was older than 1838, but it bears the French boar's head for Paris Silver 1838/1962...
Decor is kind of trophy, can't say for sure, but look like crossed sword and saber.
Of course, lacking some marcasites, and back is rather dinged!
I wasn't able yet to find any similar!
Searched for blue Vauxhall/marcasites/silver, blue crystal marcasites silver....
I would be very pleased to have your thoughts!
VERY BEAUTIFUL !!!!
very nice...............
Tank you Vetraio for your quick love and comment :-)
Thank you too, Roycroft !
Kyra, this cobalt blue glass was fairly popular for jewelry during the 1800s (I have seen a number of memorial rings with urns with a deep blue surround. I also have several portrait miniatures with cobalt blue glass backs, often with gold cipher initials.
While Vauxhall glass came in this blue color also, I haven't ever seen it inset with anything -- it is usually flat and set into a metal backing.
It is also interesting to see the ribbon fittings on your necklace, as aren't these typically earlier than the 1800s?
Bluboi, I totally agree with you for 1800' and even early!
It is the hallmark which is puzzling, earlier beeing 1838.
I love this cobalt blue crystal too and had several mourning pieces with it, around 1780.
Thank you so much for your comment, I'm not familiar with Vauxhall glass :-)
Krya, I only have a couple of Vauxhall glass pieces. Here is one, front and back:

Exquisite! Kyra, to me the sword looks more like a cross or a sceptre over a torch?
Or maybe a cross and a sceptre? I don't know, just doesn't look like a sword to me.
Bluboi, your Vauxhall brooch is striking! Thank you for the link :-))
Katherine, I was thinking perhaps a torch too, the cross is rather confuse...
Thank you for your clever idea!
Looks sort of Knights Templar!
What a shame that I can only hit the "LOVE IT" button once!!
Ha! You can love it each time you're around, it will appear on the board ;-)
Thank you Efesgirl, and Torakitty for your comments and love :-))
Many thanks to the 16 lovely lovers :-))
Lovely and definitively very old!
Are this marcasites and not cut steel I cannot see it so wel?. Very old cut steel has the same age? Page 41 of the book: Cut steel and Berlin Iron Jewellery from Ann Clifford
Agram, it is marcassite, new pic posted!
Thank you so much for your interest and comment :-)
Thank you Efe for your visit and love!
I had some french enameled antique buttons with
marcasites around likethis an a hand painted regal scene in the middle---Now this was back in 1970s. I sold them way too cheap-(-before I got the button book). I see these now and it reminds me. I feel "pangs" of regret.
Motto--"Don't sell til you are fully informed". Your posting is precious!!!
Oh, PCC, they must have been lovely to see!
I understand your regret to have sold them without knowledge...
But, for collector buyer it surely was a great joy to get them cheap ;-)
Thank you very much for your visit, comment and compliment :-))
I seldom have regrets..But I doubt I will ever hold anything that magical in my hand again. I wish I had my whole collection of buttons back and know what I know now. Is that "en masse" sighing I hear?? I guess a lot of us always had the eye before the "smarts"-- Thanks for message--Always good to hear from you!!
Pcc hoping all is well for you, you are rare here!
Thanks Caperkid for exploring my posts and leaving your appreciated loves :-))
It is an amazing find!!!
Thank you for your comment and love, Martika! I never came across another similar necklace :-)
Many thanks for your visit and love, Aura, Melanie and Windwalker!
Hi Kyra - I missed this first time around. Two of my favourite things-(cue Julie Andrews)-blue glass/crystal, and marcasite stones. I only found out lately that they are cut from pyrite. The necklace is very beautiful.
Looking at the fifth stone back on the left hand side, I see a small, bright small tag? Am I seeing things? Is this where the hallmark is because I can't find it anywhere else?
I can't help with pattern on the stones, very tricky to decipher - for me anyway,
@ Bluboi thanks for showing your Vauxhaul glass, it's incredible.
Hi Gillian! The "tag" is an old repair, where a hook link has been resoldered.
The hallmark, a boar's head, French silver 1838 to now, is on the end loops!
Thank you for your interest and sharp eye :-)
Jenni, Mani, thank you for your loves, and digging up this old post of mine ;-)
Ha Eileen! I always think about all the previous owners\wearers of those antique pieces of jewellery... If only they could tell their stories!
I wore it only 3 times, but still love getting it out for staring at it :-D
Cobalt is such an appealing color!
It kind of looks like Royal Sceptre marks, love this gem !~
Eileen, aren't we all silly collectors... All our pieces are beloved and silent "babies" :-)))
Phil! Thank you!
