I have no clue about trunks but i bought this one today for $40 bucks from a neighbor and it has a smaller twin. I'm curious if i should go out and go for the other one if it's worth it. I'm also curious to know more about them.
UPDATE
This is from the 1890's and I have just been informed by my mom that there was not only the smaller twin but another as well that was even smaller. A set of three.
This is a nice 1890's dome top trunk -- and really -- you can't beat the price. I recognize some of the hardware on it -- have seen in on similar trunks. The smaller twin would be interesting and usually the smaller ones are harder to come by. Without a label its hard to know who may have made your trunk. One of our other contributors may be able to fill you in a bit more. Welcome to Collectors Weekly!
Thank you so much, that's helpful. I'm also wondering the side leather handle says "32" what does that mean?
It also has an image inside of a women and and man near a fence in green pastors and around that picture is a decorative border and there's also a border on the further edge of the top.
The designation "32" is a parts number. The picture on the interior is called "lithograph" - usually pastoral scenes or beautiful women or something of that ilk -- most trunks have them and sometimes you will find duplicates on other trunks. That's a nice one on your lid. Some do collect these pictures as well as labels of trunks. Once you start looking at trunks you will be amazed at the variety out there...
Does it or its siblings have inserts? $40 is a great price for this even without the inserts.
No they don't , they all have the same lithograph though.
