Japanese? At a guess, 1950's, 60's ? Music trinket box is in working order but needs some TLC. Brass hinges and lock, Top of box inlaid with abalone shell and hand painted Japanese scene. Ornate mirror beneath lid, 3 jewellery compartments. Two compartments lift by hinge when opened. The Music Mechanics are covered by lacquer lid that can be removed. The music/ trinket box is supported by 4 ornate feet and stands 11.5cm H x 16cm W x 14cm D. Hope you like it.
I love this - my Mum had one for years - I'm sorry to say I don't know what happened to it.
I love it, too, for same reason, my mom had one, I still have it, though in sad shape, we kids were the worst ever. Music box doesn't work, one of the side lids missing, case overall is not in terrible condition. These are offered pretty often online, and the values aren't too daunting if anyone is looking to add one to their Asian things. Which reminds me, I was going to share some of the things I have around the house from years of hoarding -- err, collecting! :))
Thank you racer4four and katherinescollections for you comments and luvs, I also had one as a young girl, the Grand Piano music box with ballerina who twirled and reflected in the mirror, sad to say that did the disappearing trick too. I don't hoard either ... I like to think that I save ! LOL
