Back in the 70's-90 I worked for a dentist in Lex.,Ky. His mother-in-law lived at the same office. She was in her 90's when she passed and I acquired these from her. She was from the Eastern KY mountains close to Harlan/Whitesburg area. Each doll is hand made and every stitch is sewn so delicate on silk and wool. The apple faces are as old looking as I feel they are. I have wondered where I could learn more about them. I treasure them and I also made one myself about 15 yrs ago. The stand they are attached to is also hand carved.
Any information such as books, sites, folk art etc I would appreciate.
