I bought this today at a local flea market for about $3.80. Normally, I would've walked right on by but this jar screamed at me! I know next to nothing about these things.
100% hand painted. Not a speck of transfer printing anywhere. About 9 inches high and about 18 inches girth. A bit on the heavy side.
To bad there wasn't another one. A pair would have been better.
Thanks for looking/loving.
~Bonnie~
What a great jar, and such a bargain! Thanks for sharing it, Efesgirl. :)
Oh oh, yikes! :))
THAR SHE BLOWS! :-D
@katherinescollections: Thanks! It is a great jar. Maybe at the next market there the same people will be back with the other jar...haha!
Is that a dog on the lid
It's beautiful Efe. Bargain!
Zowie - yes, it's called a shishi dog finial.
Thanks, racer4four!
Here is a similar ginger jar:

I swear, one day Bonnie's gonna come prancing on here and say, Guess what, I bought the freaking Hope Diamond for a nickel. :P
Wow, great information, OAS. Those are the kind of intimate details that really tell the story perfectly, thank you. :)
OAS - thanks for the info! No matter what it is, I like it very much. The fact that it's totally hand painted wins it points.
@katherinescollections: don't be surprised.... I have bought 14/18K gold and gold/diamond jewelry for literally PENNIES. I have a pair of BIG creole hoop earrings which are 18K gold. Stamped 750 with the maker or retailer's name beautifully cast in script on the inner rim. What did I pay? 25 CENTS. The earring are "brass", you see...so sold as brass. WAH HAHAHAHA!
Good eye, Efe!
My bargains are rather 10 or 100 than 25 cents... But a bargain is a bargain ;-)
kyratango - that's right. When you buy something for 100 and it's value is greater than that, then you have done well!
Efesgirl sorry to take so long in getting back & thank you for telling us what the dog is have a great day
Zowie - thanks! I'll be back with more weird and wonderful stuff...and thanks to everyone who loves my ginger jar!

melaniej - of all the ceramic pottery living in my house, this ginger jar is in my Top 5 favorites. It's a big lump, but it's a beautiful big lump! :-))))
Hiya Vintage_Joe - thanks for the comment. I'm not a fan of oriental ceramics/pottery, the exception being this ginger jar.
