Nice old trunk -- the "S" does stand for a maker -- whose name escapes me just now... maybe Seward... well I hope one of our contributors who are up on this would know -- I do not see that logo on the hardware often -- well actually I do not think I have seen it before! Looks like it is from around the 1880's to 90's trunk. Very nice and thanks for the post and welcome to Collector's weekly!

Thank you for the welcome! Does anyone know whats best to use to clean the outside of the trunk?

Nice trunk, probably closer to the late 1890's. Myself and Marvin Miller at This Old Trunk have been trying for years to figure out what the "S" means. We do agree that it does not signify any trunk maker, but rather is the stamp of the maker of the hardware. The leader right now is JH Sessions Co.

Jim's site is hmsantiquetrunks.com which is equally cool! :)
Thanks for the clarification Jim on the "S" -- I took a shot at it .... so glad that you guys are around to share your knowledge!
