This vase just arrived from the Netherlands. It is purported to be Kralik, but I haven't been able to find anything even remotely close. It has a spectacular iridescence and a nicely textured surface from crushed glass. It measures 6" h x 5"w, and has a fire polished rim and ground and polished pontil. Does anyone have an idea who the maker could be?

This could some new piece made in the manner of LOETZ, still done in Austria call"Cabinet Vase" they all have special design, we see a lot on Ebay.
Is this look old to you rick.
Who ever made this it is spectacular and beautyful

I thought Igor Muller when I first saw it - his pieces seem to be flooding the market right now.
    16. Michelleb007 Michelleb007, 9 years ago
I agree with Alan and Mac...I am thinking modern, too.
    17. SEAN68 SEAN68, 9 years ago
so I just want to be very clear on this.......... so what is called then?
    18. Rick55 Rick55, 9 years ago
Thanks for the comments and love Alan, Mac and Michelle and thanks for the love Agh, Silvia, Deano, Craig, Oz, Courtenay, Valentino, Mike, Smiata, Ivonne, Macart and Just_a_random... it's all appreciated..

@Michelle and Mac... I appreciate your input. At first, that had also crossed my mind, but his pieces don't typically have a ground and polished pontil. Although beautiful - the quality of his work doesn't rise to the level of finishing a pontil by grinding and polishing. Also, the base shows nice wear where it makes contact with the table. Finally, I've never seen an example of of his work, where he uses cracked glass shards. Here are some examples of his pontils: http://postimg.org/image/w4b1jf0hh/

Interesting to know about the base wear...let me look into this more! :)
    20. Michelleb007 Michelleb007, 9 years ago
...and I meant to also say - whoever made it, it is real beauty!

Sorry to say but this is a very nice but modern piece. Similar pieces can be found on ebay
    22. Alan2310 Alan2310, 9 years ago
That's what I say to, indeed beautiful.
After all, what the hell do I know on this, not much anyways.

Thanks Michelle, I appreciate your help. If you look at the base in pic 3, there is a ring which has light scratches where it makes contact with the table.
    24. Rick55 Rick55, 9 years ago
Thanks Tony I appreciate your input... Like I said earlier, Modern Czech is what first came to mind, so prior to buying it, I looked at every example of his I could find - ebay and google - but couldn't find a match. None remotely similar in form nor finish . It very well may be modern, but I don't believe it's Muller. Like I stated earlier, he just doesn't go that extra step to finish the pontil, or use cracked glass in this manner.
    25. Mac63 Mac63, 9 years ago
Rick - I wonder if we need to create a new category of glass; instead of calling it in the "style of Loetz"we need to call it in the "style of Muller". Surely he cannot not be the only person responsible for this type of glass which we are seeing on eBay when one does a Loetz search.

Just as an aside and in my opinion - the upside to this style of glass is that some it (this one included) it truely beautiful. The downside is that I see it causing a lot of confusion as to who made it and will continue to do so as it floods the market. The other downside is that there will be those unscrupulous types who will ground out pontils and sign pieces falsely.

Here you go Michelle... http://postimg.org/image/g6ip83hnp/ The vase doesn't sit flush. It rests higher in a couple of spots and the wear patterns are consistent with that. I suppose wear patterns can be manufactured so who knows...

@Mac.. Yes there are at least a couple more I've seen. One is from a seller Tomaso and another is Jafu. Each has their own forms and decor that, I assume, are unique to them.

I appreciate everybody's input and opinion which is one of the reasons we're all part of CW. So, I'm going to trust you guys that it's a new piece, but I do love it regardless!

~ WOW ~ What a stunning piece of glass!! I love the colors of it -- my fav !!
    33. Rick55 Rick55, 9 years ago
Thanks Rose. Turns out it is a contemporary piece. I just came back from the Antique Roadshow in S.C. and they dated it to the 80's.

It's the same color as my truck and I swear I see yellow in there too:) what do you think?
    37. Rick55 Rick55, 9 years ago
Yeah Trey, it's definitely the same color as your truck, which looks great BTW. The yellow you see is the light going through the vase which makes it look yellow, but it's not.
    38. Trey Trey, 9 years ago
      Ahh it tricked me:)
    39. Trey Trey, 9 years ago
Thanks for the nice compliment on the truck too:)

Everything about this vase Works! for me. I really like the iridescent green. I pretty much like everything green. I hope you find out what it is. Nice piece Rick.
    41. Rick55 Rick55, 9 years ago
Thanks so Much Deano and Ho2.

@Deano... In comment 33, I mentioned that I took it to the Antiques Roadshow. They told me it's a contemporary Czech piece dating from the 80's. Regardless, I love it and appreciate your comment.
