I was soo rapted to come across this little tea set in a local Op shop. The set considered of 10 pieces, 6 cups and 4 saucers. One of the cups had a tiny chip around the rim other wise all in great shape. I referred to Gotheborg website and believe the marking on base is "Dai Nichi Hon/Dai Nippon" (Great Japan) possibly 1940's (?)
On arrival home before I had even unwrapped each parcel, I knocked 2 cups still wrapped up in paper to hard kitchen tiles. Of course I smashed 2 of the little cups to smithereens (not the one with chip) and was so annoyed with myself for breaking them after they had survived for so long !
Anyway ..... Hope you like them. :(

Beautiful set :)... I know that has to smart Lulu.... so sorry about the mishap. I think we all have had a similar disaster at one time or another. I had a cashier drop the lid to a unusual Metlox sugar bowl on the counter and take a big chip out of the edge while she was wrapping it. She was so mortified and apologetic ( I did still take it at a discount though) I never let them wrap things anymore. I'll carry it piece by piece to the car if I have to or bring my own box.

Thanks for the commiseration mikelv85, appreciation and luv. Sorry to hear about your sugar bowl lid too :( I'm having a bad run with breakages lately, but I agree it is a beautiful set still.

      It's delightful Lulu!
My lip quivered at your tale - but we have all been there.

Oh yes we have all been there. A cashier broke a cup as she was bagging them. As for myself, I once packed away two cups and saucers Occupied Japan, the box somehow got under a heavier box and the cups were broken to bits, all I have now are the saucers. :(

These are lovely pieces, Lulu, very striking decor! :)

Fortunately not happened to me too many times. A nephew once broke a favorite glass pitcher that belonged to my mother, that about killed me since I have very few things that belonged to her, and to my childhood. But I feel worse that I yelled at him, he was just a kid messing around. :( God knows we were terrors as kids, probably broke a whole houseful of stuff. :P

Racer4four thank you for your kind comments and luv. Yes it was a combination of sadness and annoyance with myself for being so clumsy, especially as I had smashed a lovely little egg shell porcelain saucer only a couple of weeks ago. Keep me out of the China Shops !! LOL

Thanks for sharing your stories KAT and luv, I should wrap myself in bubble wrap to prevent breaking anything else! The pieces are still wrapped in paper not thrown out yet. I'm in denial still. :) LOL

Thank you OAS for your kind comments, commiseration and luv. Yes I agree, they are quite unusual and the art work seems darker than others I've seen even with gold introduced. Glad you picked up on the marking, I'm very much a novice in that respect! I will do some more research and see what I can come up with. :)

Its unusual mark to see on Satsuma Style ware I would date to 1920's 30's at the latest.
