This fat little fellow was part of my grand-parents heirloom.

It shows evident Schreger's lines, caracteristic of ivory!

You can see too in carved flower in pic #2 and at the bottom in pic #4 a tiny piece of ivory added to close the tusk's dental canal.

Whole piece is patinated, surely with tea, to get a warm color.

Dimensions are 1.5/8" height and 1.3/8" base width.

    Has a signature on bottom.

    Thank you for looking :-)

I love it when I learn something new! Schreger's lines! Both of your pieces are lovely, Kyra and thank you for the great, detailed descriptions.

Aww, your little guys are adorable. I love netsuke carvings. One of my estate sales in Florida had tons of them and they all sold.

Kyra, with regard to the Chinese Blue Bowl: I downloaded, enhanced (contrast, color, sharpness), and enlarged the first, third, and fourth photos in the post and the bowl you referenced in your comment. I brought up the cobalt so the gold shows more clearly against the blue background. There is considerable difference in the quality of the execution of the precise gold pattern in your reference bowl and the pattern in the post. There was also a problem with the gold bearing paint used on the post. It did not precipitate properly.
The characters in the post are only a rough approximation of those of the Kangxi reign, and were probably made by someone using another (poor) copy as a guide.
I chose to comment here as I did not wish to detract in any way from that post, especially with new posters. If you would, please delete this comment after reading. Thanks, Val

      Thanks for your précisions, Val!
That's precisely why I advised the poster to submit his bowl to a specialist :-)
When it comes to unusual pieces, there is nothing better to have it in hand!
You gave good ids on blue and white modern pieces with apocryphal marks, and the posters still ask if their piece is from the era...
I feel very comfortable with keeping your comment, thank you for your delicacy :-)
