My granddaughters were yard sale shopping this past week and bought me this Civil War Chess Set for $5.00. The board and pieces seem to be a plaster cast of some sort. One of the Union Knight pieces incurred some battle injuries, as the mounts front legs were cut off at the knees and the
soldier was decapitated. Fortunately, the horses legs & soldiers head was with the set and are now being reattached.
The chess board is 14-1/4" x 14'-1/4" x 1" thick.
Now I have to look for a nice table to set it on.
This is my third chess set, so does it count as a "collection" yet.
Thanks for looking,
Dave

Are these sets rare? Looks rare to me.
vetraio50, I'm not sure of age but I don't think they are very old.

Love this Dave, but beware....The Grey Rook will be banned for having the Tennessee Battle Flag
I remember these being offered by "Franklin Mint" back in the 1980's
Kerry, the granddaughters said the reason why the lady was selling it was because she didn't want to get caught with anything connected with the confederate flag. They told her, "we're sure my grandpa will take anything confederate you want to get rid of."
