I have owned this bedroom set for years. The headboard and the dresser both have oval inserts with paintings inside. The dresser has a marble top and marble shelf. There is "beading" on the dresser and on the headboard/footboard (not pictured.) The drawers are not dovetailed......but instead have one big wedge holding them together. There is also a rope-like detail in the dresser......two rows across each.
The footboard does not have a painting insert.
I know NOTHING about these pieces and would appreciate any information. Are they English, French, or American? I think the wood might be a dark oak. Age?
The set is lovely.........and very unusual. I wonder if both pieces originally had oval mirrors and were later replaced with the paintings.
Wish I knew more..............and thank you in advance for helping me learn more about this set!
My grandmother had a similar set. She told me that it had been given to her as a wedding gift in the 1920s. She said that her mother gave them to her as they were given to her. They had paintings and a marble top. Sadly we list them in a fire when I was in high school.
Thanks for your comment! So sorry that you lost your set in a fire!

This would be called a tri-fold but I question calling it a dresser. A tri-fold dresser would have a wood top. A tri-fold wash stand would have a marble or granite top. The reason being water damage to wood and not marble or granite. Just my 2 cents and seed for thought.
Thank you for your comment! Yes, a wash stand would have a marble top......and my piece does.........so I will refer to it as a tri-fold marble top wash stand.
Thanks for taking the time to help!
