This oak secretary is from the early teens. Notice the candle shelf with the centaur and the dragon or serpent supporting the shelf. Centaurs and gargoyles were used in Victorian architecture to ward off evil spirits. This piece is nearly flawless with original hardware and finish. It has a curved wavy glass door and hand carved design details. The mirror is even original. Keys and all locks work. Some friends find it unnerving because when the drop lid is up they say it has spooky images in the wood grain. I don't know about that but I do think it is a beautiful piece.

Very cool piece of furniture. It does look like a face in the lid:)
