I thought I might have already posted this, but here it is again for those who might have missed it.
This is the original sword of Capt. Henry H. Davis. The scabbard has his name engraved on the brass throat (hard to photograph due to age) and reads, " Presented to /Capt. H. H. Davis/137th Regt. N.Y.S.V./by/His Company." The photo is of Capt. Davis and he is holding the actual sword.
I was able to visit his grave site & photographed his tombstone. In partial it reads, " He Enlisted In The /U.S.A./OCT. 14,1861/Entered 137th N.Y.S.V./SEPT. 6, 1862/DIED/MAY 23, 1865/of wounds received/at the battle of Chancellorsville."

      Nice foot officers sword.

NY State didn't track his wound or death from battle wounds as he was discharged about 2 years prior to his death:

      Henry H. Davis

Residence was not listed; 21 years old.

Enlisted on 9/6/1862 at Binghamton, NY as a Captain.

On 9/6/1862 he was commissioned into "B" Co. NY 137th Infantry
He was discharged for disability on 5/20/1863

Good thing you have the grave site information.

It is not unusual to find conflicting information on Civil War soldiers.

Forgot to ask-- is it a family piece or are you a collector?
