    Frank Rowland, American (1927 - )
Diversity is the key word in Frank Rowland’s life and artwork. Born in Altoona, Pa, in 1927; he has lived throughout the United States, spending length of time in Pittsburgh, Phoenix and Chicago. His interest in art began as a child accompanying his father to W.P.A. art classes at night. His talents were honed through studies at the School of Display Art in Pittsburgh, the School of the Art Institute, the American Academy of Art and the Academic Art Foundation all in Chicago.

Unable to limit his creativity to fine art, Rowland has been actively involved in architecture, industrial design, illustration, designing sets for film and stage, museum exhibits, book design, film making and commercial art. All this combined with his vast output of paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, murals and sculpture, attest to his creative energy and variety of endeavor.

Frank Rowland’s talents as a master printer are widely recognized in the field of fine art serigraphy. He has been instrumental in developing and expanding this medium of expression. Artists with such diverse styles as Erte, Agam, Peter Max, Henrietta Wyeth and Frank Gallo, among others, have had Rowland translate their images into quality limited editions. All of Leroy Neiman’s early prints were printed by him. Now, Rowland focuses mainly on his own art.

In his own work, Frank Rowland refuses to be limited to one style or mode of communicating with the public. This results in a diversity on his imagery. All his art does show a highly developed sensitivity to form, color and line. This allows him to steer the viewer into a common emotional response for each piece; yet allows the viewer to interpret the art from their own associations.

Rowland’s artwork is featured in the collections of such companies as Crocker National Bank, Playboy, Encyclopedia Brittanica, Sears Roebuck Co., Arthur Anderson, Allstate Insurance, Price Waterhouse, Coldwell Banker, Gould Inc., IBM and many others.
