This tool was found in an old barn. It is 8 inches from tip to tip and 2 1/2 inches at widest part. The two arms slide back and forth creating a wide opening at the top and a narrow opening at the bottom by using the finger grips. There are mounting holes at each end. No markings can be detected.
My husband believes the item is a beaver trap.
Does the pivot pin have a wing nut on it, or is it just a peened over rivet? Is there a spring on the underside? Can you post a picture of the underside? Thanks
Photo of bottom of item has been added. Peened over and no spring.
Tooly: I looked for your item for a long time, without any succsess. I have 2 or 3 wild guesses, but they are all just that, WAG's. If I were you, I would go back to plan A, and give it a good cleaning, in a vinegar bath, for a day or 2, and then wire brush it. You may get lucky and find the money mark under the rust! Good Luck!
