This is a late 19th century Hukin & Heath claret jug. The top rim with hinged lid are silver plate with the H&H mark with a little bird. The whole jug is cut with small dimples in a kind of artificial naturalistic effect a bit like planishing. The handle has a bubble running through it.
A fantastic quality piece it must have taken ages to cut and polish all those dimple just to create a surface effect. This may have been a Christopher Dresser design but I have haven't seen it in any of my books or references. Christopher Dresser designed for H&H in the 1870s-80s.
