Just my opinion: the stopper might not be original but instead seems almost like a perfect match for another decanter you posted, which you called an odd shape or something
Lovely!! That is an American decanter in 19thC, and probably the first half like lovedecanters suggested. This shape was popular throughout that century in US. A little pain that it has a wrong stoppe...
