This is a cast iron English art nouveau fireplace from a terrace house made in 1906. Typical art nouveau whiplash designs with a row of stylised pomegranates just below the mantelpiece. It has a hatch to open and close the flue.
This is the fireplace in my study, which would be the 1st floor bedroom at the back of the house.
In England the floors in my house are described as cellar, ground floor, 1st floor and 2nd floor. Unlike US where it would be basement, 1st floor, 2nd floor, 3rd floor.
