Waterford Irish Decanter

This is a Waterford Irish decanter, mould blown body, with three annulated neck rings and a press moulded bullseye stopper. It is moulded to imitate expensive cut glass. Waterford glassworks in its original guise ran from 1783 until 1851. This decanter was made approximately 1825.

What I love about this decanter is that it was made to allegedly imitate cut glass, but is it such a poor imitation. You can see from about 50 feet that it is not cut glass. In my books that makes it cool. It is a reasonably rare piece, and bought from an unsuspecting seller on eBay.

I have used the term annulated neck rings, this is where the still hot glass has a little tool run around the ring to make it look like three in one. Some people call them triple neck rings, but when you have three triple neck rings, that's just confusing so I just stick the proper technical term for that kind of neck ring, annulated.
