Love the carving
As a suggestion......when you take a picture try a different background. You have furniture behind furniture and brown on and in front of brown. Makes it difficult to pick out details. Even drape a bed sheet behind it to make it stand out.
Looks like a double press back with a laminated seat. Not an antique but probably more a vintage type thing. This one has issues but as a general rule a rocking chair is worth doing some restoration. How much restoration depends on value now and cost of restoration. In that it is family you might want to restore and keep it to pass on later.
