I picked this up the other day because despite the rust it has good bones! And I like the almost domed top of the lid. I can't wait to tackle this. I already have in one corner. I am still working on my dresser trunk but my adult ADHD let's me work on multiple things at once! I believe I have dated it between 1872 and 1880. Any suggestions are always welcome. Any info on the half dome lid? I really like the alligator tin as well. Will for sure post after pics.
Have a great day!
Hello. Your trunk was most commonly sold as an "Octagon" trunk. I would place it in the late 1880's to early 1890's. Those 1872 patent CA Taylor latches were used for a very long time. I believe if you clean the lock you will find a few patent dates, which may help you date it further. If you go to this page you will find a few catalog images for octagon trunks.

Nice looking project B. Kay, I like that pattern too. It should look pretty cool once you bring it back to life.
