Purchased this trunk at a second hand store a few weeks ago and immediately started working on it, took off the cracked leather, cleaned the brass and stained/finished the wood. The trunk sat in the store for a few weeks and the asking price had dropped to $10.00. I couldn't pass it up at that bargain price. I found another one a few days later with iron bands and brass buttons also for the great price of $10.00. Seems like a lot of folks don't see the beauty under the cracked leather and tarnished brass so I'm happy to buy them.
It is approximately 30 inches long and 16 inches tall. I now have four Jenny Lind trunks with brass bands two are larger and one is smaller than this one. I'm running out of room so something has to go. I think all trunk lovers have space issues but we continue to buy more.
Wow -- what a beautiful trunk and you did a great job bringing it back to life. How can you pass up this trunk at such a low price??? My space is getting low too... had to put a Jenny Lind inside another trunk for now.... so sad.... kinda getting like those russian dolls...
Well a great find and again nice work on the refinish.
Hey, if you're out of room I'll give you $20 for it. LOL
Thanks for the love everyone and FatBoy64 thanks for the generous offer, double what I paid for it can't go wrong with that. As trunkman said you can always stash them inside each other. I like the look of the Jenny Lind trunks in particular I have a weakness for the ones with the brass bands.
I went to Brimfield MA Antique show this week and purchased a nice hat trunk with the original tray and a brass bound document box. So even if I move one out two more are ready to take its place - that doesn't solve the space issue. I have to stop shopping, but sure that will never happen.
Either that or build on to the house.
I agree with FatBoy
