This is a framed poster of the USS South Dakota BB7 during the Battle of Santa Cruz. South Dakota was credited with shooting down 29 planes in that battle. South Dakota was one of the new fast battleships built early in WWII. The ship is easy to ID as it has only four 5" gun mounts on each side. All the other ships of this class and the and the other fast battleships had five of those gun mounts on each side. There was admirals quarters instead of the 2 gun mounts as it was intended to be flagship. Not sure if it ever was a flagship.
Dwight Shepler was a US Navy artist with the rank of Commander. Most of work was finished after the war, there were some 300 paintings.
This is a vintage print, age unknown. Frame is 21"x17".
