This is an Irish cylinder shaped decanter from about 1825. The body has band of comb flute cutting surmounted by fields of hob nail cutting. It has no neck rings, but the neck has bands of step cutting interspersed with bands of fine hob nails. The top of the mushroom stopper has radial bands of step cutting interspersed with bands of fine hob nails, with a polished centre.

Another great piece of Irish glass cutting. The neck rings on decanters of this period were to assist drunken hands in gripping when pouring. This decanter came with a different griping solution. Obviously being able to grip the neck of your decanter must have been of some prime importance at that time as glass makers seem to put a lot of effort into ensuring a good grip.

Great decanters. Do you have any tumblers, or wines, to show ?

So old :) I can see my great great grandpa pouring drinks from this to others in the Carson clan.
