I have looked everywhere on the internet and I cannot find the designer anywhere. All I know is that it was purchased from Sears in 1958 and is marked as a Scoop Chair. If someone could help me figure out the designer and price value, would be much appreciated. I have (3) of them.
Thank you!!!
OMG I love these! And you have three of them! Sorry I don't have the answers for you I just thought I would stop in and gush over them.....WOW!
It's beautiful! You're lucky to have more!
Very nice. It looks like Danish Modern to me. Maybe Carter Brothers.
Hi CollectorsonlineMall: I checked out both. Carter Brothers has a molded piece of wood behind the back of the chair and Danish Modern didn't have anything that looked similiar. A friend was saying to contact Sears. If I find out, I'll post the result. Thank you everyone for all of your comments. It's one of my favorite chairs as well.
Sears really made great product before the 1980's.
I have two chairs with the same seat design/shape in black vinyl, with three buttons, instead of four, with three additional buttons on the seat back. Mine are also on metal legs/swivel. The tags on the bottom identify them as Carter Brothers "C-Lounge" chairs. I was unable to find any information or a picture of the "C-Lounge" chair though.
I also have two sets of the bent plywood chairs by Carter Brothers, that have the same legs as the chair pictured.
Back in the 1950's many US upholstery factories made this chair, but very few sold to Sears. In the west, the main supplier of Sears was Restwell Furniture Mfg. located in Inglewood. They closed their doors in the late 1960's.
Hello..I also have one, mine is turquoise in color and also with metal legs/ swivel base. I believe these chairs were a knock off of the designer Milo Braughman's "Scoop" chairs...the seating shape is very similar to his. Mine also says Carter Brothers C-Lounge on the bottom. I also have two matching turquoise armless vinyl daybeds that I bought at the same time as the chair. I believe they're a set, but unfortunately the daybeds aren't marked as to who made them. This furniture is fun, I always get compliments on it....:)
It is manufactured by Modern Upholstered chair company Inc. Out of morristown Tennessee registered in 1940 closing in 1981 or 86
