These are the sellers photos. I bought these earrings last night, I probably won't be seeing them for a while because I'm sending them to a friends UK address, because the postage to Spain is very expensive.
Well here is my handle on these earrings. I think the Opals are from the White Cliff mines in Australia, the colours are amazing, the opals are 1.3 cm in diameter, and doublets. I hope the colours are like that in real life. I've been reading Kiwipauls posts on Opals with great interest, I hope you let me know if my verdict is correct Kiwipaul.
They are in my opinion Art and Craft. The silver mount are to me simple leaves and flowers with etching in the middle, they have a beaded bezel holding in the Opal. I'm thinking they were probably made in Australia in the 1920-30s. There are no Marks but have been tested for silver. I would like to change the screw back fittings to pieced.
I know it's very difficult to put a makers name to this type of jewellery, but if anybody has any ideas, it would be much appreciated.

Hi Jean, yes classic pieces with Australian doublets, I would think these earrings were probably made in Australia. They should look great with your other opals!
Hi Paul, love the new ring you've posted. I hope you had a good trip. Unfortunately I haven't seen these earrings yet, I'm sending all my post to a friend in the UK. When buying on eBay or other shops its costing a arm and a leg for postage to Spain. My friend offered to let me send my items to him and he would them send them onto me. I've asked him about them ( he's very interested in antique and vintage jewellery) he said they are really nice, we shall see.

These earrings are another item I received yesterday, so I'm updating the photos. The opals are so colourful, and the changes of colours in the different light is lovely. I'm considering altering them to pieced ears, but looking at the back it might be a big job, what do you think CW people.
While looking for something else I came upon some earrings which are Rhoda Wager, I've just uploaded a photo from Tademagallery the flowers with the engraving in the middle is some what similar to these earrings, could these earrings be Rhoda Wager?

Hi Jean, the Tadema earrings and yours are clearly by the same hand. The little "noughts and crosses" cross-hatch on the flowers is distinctive, so based on Tadema's attribution you could certainly attribute yours to Rhoda.
As Jewels1900 has pointed out in the past, the "Rhoda" style became popular in Australia and a number of unknown Sydney artisan jewellers worked in similar styles.
We'll never know who made each piece, so the Aussis refer to them as "School of Rhoda Wager", and your earrings certainly qualify to be called that.
Thanks Paul for your comment, I'm really please because I think I got them for a bargain. I'm still waiting for my bracelet, it's seems a long time since I sent it to the UK but I should be patient, the lady said it was a delicate job, I'll send you a mail when I finally get it.
Hi Jean, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but neither your earrings or the Tadema earrings are by either of the Wagers. I have some earrings in a similar style by Dorothy which I will try & post for you some time (still having trouble with my internet connection), you'll see the difference. Especially the flowers.
I have seen this maker before, no idea who they are.

Wow, Jewels1900 it comes to something when world class galleries are mis-attributing pieces. We have commented about this before. Yet again thanks for your help.
Hi Jean. I see Wager misattributions all the time. It seems that if it's Australian, it's often attributed to Wager (usually Rhoda), especially if it's an attribution made overseas. Also, I've noticed recently Australian pieces made into something they are not. Especially small brooches made into rings or festoon style necklaces, and then sold as Wager originals.
The reality is, even though both the Wagers were prolific, you vary rarely find pieces, even over here. I've been collecting for years and I only have a few pieces that I'm absolutely confident are by either one of the Wagers and only 1 signed piece.
I'm still having internet problems but when they are sorted i'll post some for you to have a look at. In the meantime you're getting a nice collection of Aussie jewels at a time they are becoming more & more rare.
