When I saw it i thought it is a very beautiful hand carved disk. Set in silver it could be worn as a pendant. But when i received it, it is much too big for a pendant with a diameter of 3.5" (9 cm). At the rear is clearly visible that it is cut out (photo 4) , i was told it's bone or ox horn. In some places light translucent brown (photo 3). I suppose it is Chinese.

    I have some questions:
    1. Is it Chinese?
    2. What material is it? (I still believe bone, see photo 3 what other material could it be)?
    3. Anyone has any idea what I could do with this except somewhere drop it and enjoy it ?

Its certainly very large, it does look Chinese, but I'm sure Kyra will have some ideas. Nice item.

I will say it is not bone due to it being translucent in places also age wise I think it is newer due to the saw marks being visible. The dragon looks Japanese and not Chinese dragon has more toes. Not positive its ox horn they make plastic that can look like Ox horn. Would have to look online to see if there is away to test it. It is still a neat looking piece no matter what it is made from.

Could that be tortoise shell? It looks like it from here. So funny that you say you want to drop it...I laughed because I can imagine feeling the same. It's your, do what you need to do ;)

What does the underside look like, does it have a lip on it? Maybe it's a lid to a small jar and they broke that part only selling the top.
