FOUND THIS OLD SIGN IN THE WOODS BEHIND THE HOUSE.STANOCOLA CAME TO BE AFTER THE BREAK UP OF STANDARD OIL IN 1911.IT WAS ONE OF WHAT THEY CALLED THE BABY STANDARDS.THIS LOGO WAS NOT USED AFTER 1924.WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF IT HURTS OR HELPS THE VALUE TO HAVE THIS SIGN RESTORED.NOT SURE IF I WANT TO SELL IT AS I THINK IT IS NEAT LOOKING.A SIGN LIKE THIS SOLD AT AUCTION FOR $975.00. MY WIFE AND I REALLY ENJOY YOUR PROGRAM.WE BOTH RETIRED THE FIRST OF THE YEAR AND MOVED TO TN.ANY ADVICE OR OPINIONS? THANKS,GARRY BEAIR.
Great sign, by the way it sounds like you think your talking to the American pickers. Your not, this is a collectors forum that they happen to have a link to on their web site. That said, about your sign. I have been dealing in signs for 30 years. In the early years repairs were more acceptable, but the trend has change. especialy for the rarer stuff. The advanced collector wants to know what there getting. I always say leave the repairs for the end buyer. If the collector wants a pristine sign they can have it repaired. If you were to have this sign or any Antique repaired, you should always photograph and document the before and after, and fully disclose in the event of a sale.
i completely agree rocker-sd
THANKS FOR FEEDBACK.THINK I WILL KEEP IT
ANY BODY HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THE SIGN MIGHT BE WORTH?
That's a tough question to answer on any item! It's worth what ever someone is willing to pay! Not trying to be a smart alec. :-)
THAT IS A GOOD ANSWER.THANKSI THINK I WILL MAKE SOME KIND OF FRAME AND HANG IT IN A SAFE PLACE.
