I didn't even know what a "steamer trunk" was until 30 minutes ago! Such an interesting history! My husband found this at a garage sale apparently... I have no clue the make, but it has a "Railway Express Agency" sticker on it still, so it traveled somewhere between 1917 and 1975! It's been fun learning about the history of trunks! It has two lock types on it- Yale an Excelsior- but I can't find anything else identifying on it.

Start by searching the wonderful array of trunks here on CW, and I'm sure one of our expert trunkies will be along soon.

Well the interesting thing about your trunk is that it is not a steamer trunk but a wardrobe trunk. The steamer trunks were smaller half size trunks you could bring in a cabin with you on a ship or train voyage. Most people just call all old trunks "steamer trunks"...a bit of a misnomer. Your looks to be made from around the 1920's to late 30's. Made of "battleship grade" vulcanized fibre on the exterior-- well that's the grade name I give this stuff because it is as tough as nails. Without a label it would be hard to know who made it as there were many makers cranking these out. Wardrobe trunks are fun and funky and still great for storage -- enjoy it!!!

Thanks trunkman!! That's so fascinating!! (See- I know nothing about this stuff lol). A wardrobe trunk.. That's pretty cool! Thanks for taking the time to check out the photos and giving me the feedback! I love learning about old items.
