These are the two newest additions to the glass family. I found them at a fairly high-end antique mall at a thrift store price and I just couldn't leave them there, unappreciated, on their own!
Both are signed Daum France with the Cross of Lorraine in the middle, which I understand means they were likely made post-1945 (after they stopped adding Nancy to the signature). I'm afraid I can't date them more accurately than that though it was suggested they were probably from the 1950's or 1960's.
I'm sorry for the quality of the pics. I couldn't get a very good shot of the signature without the flash so they're a little 'spotty'. I've added a link below that shows a similar set with two pieces at nearly the same size. The person listing refers to them as ashtrays but I didn't see any indication (on mine or theirs) that they were.

If anyone can shed any light on a more accurate date or whether these came as part of a full set, it would be much appreciated!

Hello, I think you do have two Daum open salts. I've attached last two paragraphs of a CW Daum Art Glass article. All the first parts of the article are well worth reading of course:
" World War II brought another tragedy to the Auguste side of the family—Paul Daum was hauled off to a concentration camp, where he died in 1944, just before the war’s end.
After the war, the company shifted gears once more, this time focusing its artistic energies on clear, brilliant, lead crystal, which was hot-worked into figures or blown as vessels. These pieces were not entirely new, though, having descended from the Daum Christalerie de Nancy work of the 1920s. Similarly, pâte-de-verre was reintroduced in the 1970s as Pâte-de-Verre Nouveau."
Also an article on their much earlier Art Nouveau work:

Have a look too on eBay - 'Daum Open Salt'. Some of do look like ashtrays, which they also made.
Your open salts are difficult to date. I have seen examples of the plastic spoons that accompanied them.
Don't know if they sold only as sets of 4, or 6 for example. If you had a very long dining table you might need many.
You sound as though you have some glass collection(s). These are a great find.
Just trying to point you in the right directions.
Thanks, Gillian!
Most of the salts I was seeing on eBay seemed to be different shapes than mine so I was having some difficulty placing them in any context. And usually I assume they're not ashtrays if they don't have a divot for a cigarette. Since a lot of the glassware was actually used during certain periods (crazy, I know!), I guess I just expect the makers to be somewhat practical and give you a place to rest your smoke.
I was hoping the way it was signed would point to a specific period but with all the variations, that may be too much to ask.
As far as my collections go, as long as these two can get along with the Scandi hordes and the upstart Blenkos, it should be calm in the house. : )
Hi - I do hope you will share some of your other pieces here, sounds like you'll be in very good company - Scandi horders and upstart Blenkos indeed. Alot of Loetz here, well, a lot of many different glass work. Some quite stunning collections which, to my amazement, are found like yours, sitting around just waiting for the right person, who knows what they've got, to come along.
Thanks much for the love, Sean and antiquerose!
And thanks again for the info, Gillian. Hopefully, I can get the rest of the children to clean up a bit and hold still for some photos.
Thanks, sklo and Gracay!
