trunkman

Sometimes it is hard to pass up a nice trunk hidden underneath layers of paint -- three layers to be exact. I cannot say that this is my best work -- kinda got a little tired towards the end.... still... looks better than it did. Now that I can take tin off a trunk I feel a little more adventuresome... but just a little..
amazing and fabulous!!
Looks great, nice looking trunk under that horrible paint job. I'm with you, I hate to work on trunks that have been painted but sometimes you just can't pass up a nice trunk.
I would have never expected such an amazing trunk was under all of that paint.
Now that really needed to be restored. It looks beautiful now.
Nice job Trunkman!! What a great looking trunk and such amazing looking hardware. Beautiful slat clamps! Again, very nice job, as usual!
Thanks Sean, KathyKay, JonB, fortapache, and jscott for the positive comments, and walksoftly,blunderbuss2, chrissylovescats, jscott0363, fortapache, JonB, SunnyP, bjb5859, mikelv85 and Manikin for the loves...
Thank you for your comment you are very help full. what is a good way to get the dust off while keeping it looking old. Not sure how to even start on my trunk. I have head muphys soap. any secrets out there ? thank you
Turned out great, looks like Ronald McDonald may have owned this trunk before:)
Now that's funny.... :)
LOL...Trey! You are so right Trey, I didn't think of that. I just wondered who the heck would do such a thing to a beautiful trunk. I suppose that's where the saying "To each his own" comes in.
You've done a great job here...and quite a job it must have been!
Thanks shareurpassion... one of those jobs that tell you not to do it again anytime soon....
It's called oldmanitis ...
You removed the patina !!!
Don't tell Ronald Mc.... he'll be most upset...
This was simply a way for someone that travels a lot to spot the trunk from similar ones as it came out on the airport baggage turnstile ...
Eye -- it must be easy to pick you out of a crowd....
The time period that this thing was built(Late 1800s) the only air travel was by hot air ballon, this monsters weight would have grounded it. Something tells me there weren't many turnstiles either. Great job T-man turning Mickey D's happy meal into
something sweet.
Trunkman ... I am a crowd ...
eye -- explains a lot right there.... :)
Thanks Drill...
Glad I could clear it up for you ... Did you ever think how much work went into painting that trunk ? 3 layers and pretty much stayed within the lines ... Painted shabby chic is a thing ...
Wow, what a difference. I can't imagine that thing fitting in a room the way it was before.
Thanks FatBoy64 -- the previous owner said it was a toy box... poor kid...
Wait ... This is not a toy box ????
Sorry eye -- a box for toys....
Dang ... I was so happy looking at picture #1 ... Forgot to hit that love button ...
Have I made a huge mistake eye? I thought... I thought it would look better...
I love the hardware on the edges ...
This must have taken you many, many hours of tedious work and patience in order to save this one... It came out great!!!
When it is painted this bad it takes about an hour a side. I have it down pretty well now so it seems to go fast enough. Thanks for the great comments..
