The World Council of Churches issued this medal for war service to the Army and Navy Chaplains after WWI . The medal is bronze, 70mm in diameter and weighs in at 5 ounces. The edge is plain marked only “Gorham Co.”. Designed by Laura G. Fraser whose name is the obverse at 9 o’clock. This medal is surprisingly hard to find considering how many Chaplains there must have been in the army and navy of WWI.

Nice! Any relation between Laura Fraser and James Earl Fraser of Indian Head Nickel (and US WWI Victory Medal) fame?

Must correct myself in that this medal was not issued by the World Council of Churches but rather the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America. I guess my mind was still stuck in the 1960's .

What a wonderful medal. The design is so evocative. Thanks for sharing, Militarist.
