Here's my dilemma . . . It's my daughters trunk that her father left to her. Along with it he left her the paperwork and a set of keys. The paperwork is inside and the keys are for a different trunk! It's filled with books and we can't move it! Please help!
Calling on the trunk experts to tell us how to get it open without damaging it?
Thank you. AND once in I'll post a pic of the info the original owners left with age, where it came from etc...thanks in advance.
Update #2~And the story continues. (I thought I put the first update here but apparently, I only mentioned it in the title of this post, which I just changed, It said "the key will be here tomorrow")
So, sweet George sends me the key. Did you think I was going to tell you I have photos??? Nope, things are NEVER that simple for me, and yes I am laughing now, but I wasn't when things kicked into high gear!
I had forgotten when I first contacted George, it was thru my friends eBay account, so when I ordered the key, I forgot to remind George to send it to my address. I waited for 3 or 4 days after the delivery date was passed by, George is a great guy and I didn't want to ask him where my key is, right?!? Then I remembered the account address to my friends, I asked him if the key was delivered. Oooo, that's what the key was for. Mind you, he went with me when I got the first set of keys AND I told him the day I ordered the new key, so I respectfully will not repeat the words that came flying out of my mouth! All I CAN say here is that it's a good thing I didn't have the rifle that fortapachie just listed!!! Yes, I did go a bit ballistic.
My friend did finally find the key but at that point, it was too late. My daughter had to be out of her (upstairs) place by March 31 and the trunk was loaded with books so she had to break into it -and without telling me that- but she said she was very careful and there's not a lot of damage. I still don't know for sure what that means since I was unable to get down there to help her. I just realized something...she didn't send it here because she did do some damage, that silly girl must have been scared to show it to me. lol She really does know better and knows I would have shrugged my shoulders and said, "well, ya gotta do what ya gotta do".
What can I say? Ahhh ha ha, I know where that trunk is and I'm going to go there and see what she's done!!! I promise I'll get photos of it, damage to the lock included...I hope it's just to the lock. How sad is this? I swear, I just couldn't figure out why she didn't want the trunk here with her other stuff! Duh!
To be continued!
P.S. I miss ya all!!!
Cool trunk!! On the lock, there should be the brand of the lock (Eagle, Corbin, etc...). There may be a number engraved on the lock. If you can get that information, you can get on ebay and search for the key. There are tons of trunk keys available on ebay, you just need to specify what brand and the lock number. I've opened many trunks with keys purchased from ebay. Hope this helps!
Ah! You're amazing jscott! I'm so excited, I'm gonna go check it out now! Thank you! Thank you! Amazing photos and info! ;)
Thank you for the loves
Caper, vet, mike, and officialfuel.
Gotta go look! So excited!
Hi, any luck finding a key yet?
Hi jscott, I don't understand what happened here, twice I thought I added a comment but it's not showing. It was from my phone, is that common?
Actually, we went on ebay and they had keys with the same name but not the same number. In fact, the number we have is longer by a couple digits. I tried to post a question to you wondering if the numbers have to be exact and we just have to wait to find one or are some of the keys interchangeable between trunks?
We took that pic at night and couldn't see the numbers at first and even tho I've had lots of trunks throughout the years, I don't think I noticed any numbers before. I have to think that I must have seen them, but didn't concern myself about them. In fact, I have 3 other trunks myself and now want to go check them out ;)
Oh and the trunk at my daughters has the original sticker on top of the trunk that's all crackled but still there...it says This trunk is a Standard trunk made to last through lifes' hardships. Something like that anyway. It's very cool and the inside is in great shape with everything still there. On the key ring there is a tag attached with a name and says "the little key will open the trunk". Well, obviously her dad never tried to open it because the little key wasn't even there. Only two larger keys! We had to laugh. Any ideas?
There is a key dealer that I get all of my keys on Ebay from. His Ebay user name is sojournvt (his real name is George). George is very kind and will sometimes send you a bunch of keys to try. Once you find a key that works, you simply return the ones you didn't need and pay for the one that you kept. He doesn't always do that, but it's worth a try to ask him.
Also, if you send George a message on Ebay and tell him what brand of lock and what the lock number is, he'll try and find you a key that will fit that lock. He's helped me numerous times.
Good luck!!
How frustrating for you and lots of luck shareurpassion do lets us know know how you get on!..:-)
Awe, thank you so much jscott! That trunk is so heavy and it's actually been getting my awesome daughter kinda down for more reasons than one. I was going to bring it home with me and keep it here for her till she felt it would fit somewhere until I told her once we get everything out of it we could put it in a corner standing up on it's side, then she could use it as a shelf or stand putting little things on it. She loved that idea. So the sooner I get that key, the happier she's gonna be. You have been such a great help with this jscott, I really do appreciate it and I'm going to contact George right away! Thanks again!
Thank you inky, you are so sweet! I appreciate the concern. I definitely will update and photo the complete trunk once opened! Thank you!
Thanks for the loves EG!
We're all on pins and needles, now!! What a great trunk....
;) The only thing is, now it's going to be a bit of a waiting game. Keep your fingers crossed in hopes the first key we get is the only one we will need!!! Maybe in the meantime, I'll post the trunks I have here. I need to get the contents out anyway. To me they're just regular trunks as I've had some real nice ones in the past, but I still love them...they are so great for storage! Thanks Efesfirl!
Trunkman! My apologies for not seeing your name here! I wondered why you didn't comment or love, honestly I never saw you but I'm so glad you did stop by! Thank you ;)
Thanks for the loves bladerunner and Rick! Apologies for missing you too. Glad you both stopped by as well!
Thanks for the love charmsomeone!

YAY!!! Waiting to hear...
Great news ! Fingers crossed it will work :-)
Can't wait to see if the key opens your trunk. Good luck!!
I know!!! Me either! I just came straight here to make sure I let you know if I told you the key is on it's way ! I couldn't remember! Soon! Sooo excited!
Awe! Thanks Mani, you're so sweet!
And thank you too kyra! I say the key will work. Gentleman George does trunks, I really don't think he would send me something out of the blue. Absolutely, I'm going to give him credit for knowing what he knows. And how sweet can you be to just send something trusting it will get sent back or bought. I think a lot of that goes along with the name jscott!
Thanks for the love MarioZ
Oh!!!.... My goodness!!!!!!!..... How exciting is that....will wait up as just about to turn the lights out.....:-)

:'-((... Noooooooo!!!!.. But maybe a little closer...can go to bed now...my husband has been giving me the evil eye for the last ten minutes... had to explain how important this was....:-).. So goodnight from New Zealand...:-)
Ohhh!! I'm sorry your key didn't work. I know that George will get you one that does work. He always comes thru for me somehow someway.
Give the lock a shot of WD40 before trying any keys as it might have ceased up a bit over time... and good luck!
You are all so sweet and so kind. Thank you so much for your support.
Inky, you are so cute and I know exactly what you mean...I thought my phone didn't post again so I had to say to my guy...I need to post, I need to post, Inky is waiting for me! I NEED YOUR PHONE FOR JUST A MINUTE...LOL
Jscott...I will contact him. I have to give him a great review and send this key back. How sweet is that George!?! It's because of you ya know ;)
Trunkman, thanks for that tip.
What we did was put nail Polish on the key, let it dry and after we tried it, u can see where it hits the key. So now we know what we need and I'm off to see if I can find another one down here. And the saga continues... ;) xo to all.
jscott, just so you know, I just got back and sent George a note. Sending his key in the morning, along with some I already have simply for his kindness and trust. It's so nice to know good people still exist these days, right?!? Thanks again and he'll be getting an order when that key comes along. We did get the trunk moved into her living room. Oh and I got a pic of that sticker that I will add here shortly.
That's great!! I remember one year George sent me about 6 keys to try. When I found the one that worked, I asked him to invoice me. He simply said Merry Christmas and no charge. People like George are extremely rare these days. He's very kind indeed!!! Looking forward to seeing that pic and thanks so much for keeping us updated. I think everyone excited to see if your trunk opens, me included!!
What a suspense story, Sue!
For sure, I'll follow to the end :-)
P.S, the nail polish trick is a good one to keep in mind!
Hi! Any updates on getting your trunk unlocked?
Hi shareurpassion. Great trunks! And great story. What a nice guy George sounds, if I ever need a key I know who to look up. Eagerly waiting here to see what's inside...:)
So, did you ever get this one open? Very curious. George just practically gave me a trunk. All I had to do was pay him shipping cost and a few additional dollars. He was going to throw it in the wood pile if I didn't take it:) He's also sending me a key to try in one of my latest streamer trunks. Can't wait!!!
Kyra, thanks for the support. That nail polish really did work, I just didn't want to damage the key so I sent it back to George.
Now I'm a bit scared to see what it all looks like but thank goodness we have our trunk experts here! Let's just keep our fingers crossed!
Hi J, well, I'm sure you've read the update on top by now. Can you even believe this??? This is how so many things go for me. All I can do is laugh. So if I ever post something and for the description, if it's a bunch of Ha Ha's...you'll all know I've completely lost it!!! haha
P.S. I'm glad your feeling better!
Hi Vintage Fran, yes...George is the bossman! Thanks for your kind words ;)
Thank you for the love Trey. Keep watchin' for the 3rd part of this saga!
