I picked up this piece from a woman who goes to estate sales. It is a Reed & Barton Silver plate double serving dish #5107. I do not know if it is vintage or antique and can't find another one on the internet anywhere.
If anyone can identify just what it is (serving dish? tray?), please let me know. I also do not know if the center of the lids have two handles missing or is it supposed to look like that?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The covers are missing a "keyed" handle that would twist to lock in place.

It was done for cleaning, storage, and some pieces, the lid can double as another searching piece when turned upsidedown.

Sorry Predictive Text, above should be serving not searching. It was also done for manufacturing cost savings.

Thank you all so much for solving the mystery surrounding the center of the two covers. I can see how the covers could also serve as serving dishes with the design the way it is. Of course, there were no handles that had broken off when she got it so.... Regardless, I will cherish and use it during holiday meals. It really is beautiful.
If you keep your eyes open, there may be a set of handles on line for sale somewhere that will fit. Since they tend to be very ornate castings, I imagine people have a difficult time discarding them even if they have no idea what they came off of; good luck.
You're welcome,

Thanks so much tubeAmp....
I would love to find a picture of this piece so I can see what the keyed handles look like. That way, I can have a visual and a pic stored on my phone so I can identify the handles when I am out searching.........or searching online.
I never said it would be an easy search ;)
Here is a better photo of the handle's locking configuration, see photo # 6, the underside of the handle:

Thank you both so much for providing links to how the handles look and how the mechanism of the handles look. I will continue to research the handles on this particular piece but will use it anyway in spite of it having missing handles. I really appreciate all your help.
